Ducks Hunting - Breeding

Ducks start breeding with sophisticated courtship plays and dances. During such periods, ducks resort to ridiculous attempts to trim themselves up. More interesting, ducks are one of the few monogamous birds. However, it is not strict that a couple stays together for the entire life. In this respect, ducks possess comparable traits to that of humans.

After mating, females start building nests. Drakes guard the nesting females against other males. A female duck usually lays 5-8 eggs. Incubation period is 28 days. Hatchlings start feeding shortly after birth. The period of parental care is not very long, although it may be different among various species. The youth become independent rapidly, but parental ties remain not fully severed. Ducklings often seek protection of their parents.

Ducks Hunting - Habitat and Feeding

Ducks live in areas with fair amount of grass, insects, amphibians and water with small fish. Wetlands provide perfect living conditions for many species of ducks. Relatively broad beak allows them to sieve water for tiny particles of aquatic plants and small crustaceans.

Ducks Hunting - Migration

Ducks that are concentrated in temperate and arctic regions move to southern areas. Their wonderful ability to take their bearing on instinct without the benefit of experience has always been pretty much of guesswork for man. It is not yet certain whether it is a purely intuitive action or a developmental trait in the course of time. Some ducks, after an extended period return to their exact nesting sites, others choose different places. Ducks may choose either inland areas or coastal districts.
