Chick

A chick may look up to these birds; photos make their differences obvious. Ducks have been domesticated for hundreds of years. All modern breeds are the descendants of the Mallard Duck, except the Muscovy Duck. Breeds are sorted into size classes and according to their purpose: ornamental breeds, meat and eggs, and feather breeds. There are several ways to distinguish between genders of ducks. Voice of a duckling changes at the age of 4-5 weeks. Females have a loud quack, and drakes have a raspy quiet quack. Drakes and females have different plumage. Ducks of the Pekin species are one the most widely spread domestic birds of this type. Their feathers are white or cream colored; their bills are orange colored. They do not fly, are excellent for captivity and for egg and meat production. Males and females of this species look almost alike. In the wild, ducks find their habitat near water, as this is where they find their food. Some people keep small, ornamental varieties of these birds for exhibition or hobby purposes. White and Gray Calls, Black East Indias, Wood Ducks, Mandarins and some others belong to this group of ornamental ducks. A chick may look up to these birds; photos make their differences obvious.
